FISH AND MEDICINES DON’T MIX! PLEASE DON’T FLUSH MEDICATIONS DOWN THE DRAIN OR DISPOSE IN TRASH RECEPTACLES While wastewater treatment removes most pollutants, trace amounts of some substances may be harmful to aquatic life. Over the last decade there is growing evidence that pharmaceuticals, when flushed down the toilet, tend to persist in highly treated wastewater. Continual, multi-generational exposure of aquatic life to multiple pharmaceuticals is proving to have negative consequences on our environment. SONOMA COUNTY WATER AGENCY is sponsoring a pilot program to safely dispose of unused and unwanted medications. Participating drop-off locations are listed below. Bring any unwanted medication (in original containers with personal information marked out) to any participating location for safe disposal during business hours. (Please, no ointments or liquids.) Drop off your unused medicines at your local participating pharmacy or law enforcement office. The environment will thank you! Guerneville
