Geyserville, CA –Sonoma County Supervisor and Water Agency Board Director Mike McGuire will host a community meeting at 6:30pm June 21 at the Geyserville Educational Park to discuss a proposed wind turbine to be installed at the Geyserville Sanitation Zone wastewater treatment plant.  The Sonoma County Water Agency is participating in the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Renewable Energy Secure Communities (RESCO) project. The purpose of this grant funded project is to develop and demonstrate a model for a locally owned, cost-effective, renewable energy portfolio that would help Sonoma County and the Water Agency reach their greenhouse gas reduction goals. Under this project, the Water Agency is implementing several renewable technologies at some of its facilities including a wind turbine at the Geyserville Sanitation Zone’s treatment plant.

The small wind turbine is 45 ft. tall and would generate 5 kW at full capacity.   The project will cost $29,500 and will provide about 7% of the annual power consumption for the Geyserville Sanitation Zone and reduce its annual PG&E bill by $1,250.  The turbine will be owned by the Water Agency – there will be no financial impact to the Zone rate payers since the project will be mainly funded via grant dollars.

According to Supervisor Mike McGuire, “We hope folks will be able to make it out to this informative meeting to learn more about the proposed project and offer up any questions or feedback they may have.”

The 6:30pm meeting on June 21 will review the project background, purpose and timeline as well as provide a forum for active dialogue.  Water Agency staff will be available to discuss project specifics, receive feedback and answer questions.
