About Your Water

Water Supply
The Sonoma County Water Agency was created as a special district in 1949 by the California Legislature to act as the local sponsor for federal flood protection and water supply projects known collectively as the Russian River Project.

Water Conservation

Learn more about how you can conserve water today!  The Sonoma County Water Agency provides an array of water conservation programs and rebates for homes and businesses.

Recycled Water

As water demand increases, the Sonoma County Water Agency strives to make efficient use of our limited supply of fresh water. Together with your local water supplier we are working to reduce demands on our system by implementing water conservation and water recycling programs.

Flood Protection
In 1958, under the authority of the Agency's enabling legislation, the formation of nine geographical zones, each encompassing a major watershed, was proposed as a means of financing the construction and maintenance of flood protection works within Sonoma County.

Sanitation
During a restructuring of the county government in 1995, the Agency assumed responsibility for managing the county sanitation zones and districts, which provide wastewater treatment, reclamation, and disposal for approximately 22,000 residences and businesses.

Fisheries
The Russian River watershed is designated as critical habitat for threatened stocks of coho salmon, chinook salmon, and steelhead. The Agency is working with other organizations to protect and restore habitat for these species.

Recreation
The Agency offers recreational activities, such as walking and biking, on many of its properties. One such property is Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa. For more information, please visit Sonoma County Regional Parks website by clicking on the above link.
